Reviews
"As the booker of an independent venue, I always appreciate when bands are easy to work with and adept at promotions, on top of having the goods musically. Ginger Molasses works just as hard on getting people out, with their social media prowess, as they do on their electrifying stage show. They consistently get their fans out to see them, and it's a good-time crowd."
— Lynn Schwartz, Bottom of the Hill
(San Francisco)“BISS List never misses a Ginger Molasses show. They bring the heat every time with true rock star stage presence, a tight and powerful live show, and a killer social media game that matches their onstage energy. Ginger Molasses consistently shows up prepared, professional, and ready to connect with the audience.”
— Pamela Gerstein, Founder & Curator, BISS List“It’s always fun to speak with Ginger Molasses. Beyond their obvious musical chops, they have a collective great sense of humor and are witty to boot.”
— Big John, KVMR
(Nevada City)“Ginger Molasses definitely fall into the retro rock category in terms of their style but this Nevada City quintet play with enough funk and conviction to prove that, as opposed to being mere revivalists, they are in fact the real thing.”

Band Bio
Ginger Molasses is a five-piece rock band formed in 2023 in the Sierra Nevada Foothills town of Nevada City, California. Their unique blend of soul, funk, and rock, is a result of a strong chemistry and friendship born during the pandemic, when they bonded over homemade ginger molasses cookies and their shared love of Bob Seger.
Reminiscent of groups like Lake Street Dive, Grace Potter, and Greta Von Fleet, Ginger Molasses also draws inspiration from 60s and 70s rock-soul acts like Little Feat, Ike & Tina Turner, and Joe Cocker. Their music gets audiences up and dancing.
The lightning bolt of the band is front-woman Tawnee Kendall, whose Nashville-tinged vocals and energetic stage presence makes for a memorable live show. Behind her is a roster of solid musicians: Lessley Anderson playing funky Wurlitzer and B3 keyboard sounds, Galen Krumel delivering melodic hooks on bass, Bodhi DuLac shredding on guitar, and Nick Overhauser driving the rhythm on drums.
Ginger Molasses’ songwriting celebrates overlooked American subcultures. Fans are transported to other worlds, such as a real-life Houston theme park devoted to the orange, steroid use in pro baseball, and renegade speed boaters on the Sacramento Delta. Their absurdist humor and camaraderie can be felt in everything they do, whether it's in the platform shoes, sparkles, capes they wear on stage, or their creative approach to social media and marketing.
They have lit up stages across Northern California at iconic venues such as Bottom of the Hill (SF), Boom Boom Room (SF), Miner’s Foundry (Nevada City), and Truckee’s Music in the Park. In 2024, they released their self-titled, six-song debut EP on all major streaming platforms, and in October of 2025, they released the single, River Rats, an anthem to the anarchic speedboat culture of the Sacramento Delta. Heidi Fleiss, a tribute to the LA madame, released January 15, 2026. They are now working on their first full-length album, slated to be released in the summer of 2026.
